Downtown sewer system work: June 28 to mid-Sept.

A contractor will be inspecting and cleaning sewer lines overnight in downtown Winston-Salem starting the evening of Monday, June 28. Crews will work seven days a week primarily from 6 p.m. until approximately 5 a.m. in an effort to complete the project by mid-September. There will be a hiatus during Fourth of July week and occasional breaks on weekends or during unsafe weather conditions.

A closed-circuit TV camera unit will be used to inspect sewer lines. Other equipment will include a combination wash and vacuum truck that may reach noise levels up to 90 dBA (similar to a lawn mower) at the vehicle. Cleaning in predominantly residential areas will be scheduled during the day to minimize disruptions during normal quiet hours. The boundary for this project is generally Northwest Boulevard on the north, Marshall Street on the east and Salem Parkway on the south, with Summit Street, Burke Street and West First Street on the west. Postcards have been sent to addresses within the project zone - See attached map.

Lane closures will occasionally be required and traffic will be controlled by a flagger when necessary. For more information, call City Link 311 or 336-727-8000.
