More than 100 tour Water Treatment Plants

Imagine a Day Without Water-Oct. 23

Third grade students from Brunson Elementary piled into the control room of R.A. Thomas Water Treatment Plant to learn about how safe drinking water gets to their homes and school. The October 23 field trip was in recognition of Imagine a Day Without Water.

The Value Water Campaign encourages organizations and communities around the world to raise awareness about the value of water as a vital resource. Imagine a Day Without Water is a day-long event recognized by nearly a thousand utilities and other organizations each year.

2019 was the first year Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Utilities participated in the campaign. The utility hosted nearly 100 third graders from Brunson Elementary and around 20 students from Mt. Tabor High School at its Thomas and Swann Water Treatment Plants on October 23. Later that evening, WSFC Utilities also hosted a public tour of the Neilson Water Treatment Plant. The tour will likely be the last public tour before the water treatment plant undergoes a multi-million dollar modernization project.

The Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Utility Commission also passed a resolution officially recognizing October 23 as Imagine a Day Without Water.
