Leaf Collection Update

The 2022 leaf collection season began on Nov. 7 in quadrant four, which is the area roughly bounded by New Walkertown Road on the east, Salem Parkway on the south, and Reynolda and Yadkinville roads on the west.

Collection has proceeded clockwise by quadrant. Crews reached quadrant two, in the city’s southeast section on Dec. 9.

Stevie Dulin, the director of the sanitation department said that a higher density of leaves from larger trees in the second quadrant has slowed progress substantially, but crews are committed to getting the work done.

“Our crews have been working six days a week,” he said, “and we’ve chosen to work the second and third quadrants together to get the leaves off the curbs as soon as possible.”

Crews expect to finish quadrants two and three by early 2023 and will then begin the second round of collections.
