[ARCHIVED] City and Leadership Winston-Salem Sponsor Trust Talk

Winston-Salem Police Chief William Penn and Forsyth County Sheriff Bobby Kimbrough will discuss ways that law enforcement and the community can work together to prevent an incident such as the fatal beating of Tyre Nichols, during a trust talk on Tuesday, Feb. 21 at Forsyth Technical Community College.

The trust talk will be held at 6 p.m. in the Strickland Center auditorium and is open to the public. Dr. William T. Lewis will co-moderate the discussion with members of the human relations commission,  and there will be a Q&A session afterwards. The event is co-sponsored by the city’s Human Relations staff and commission members and Leadership Winston-Salem. Registration is advised: https://tinyurl.com/zpprruye.

Lewis has served as the special consultant to the president for belonging, equity and inclusion at Forsyth Tech. He is the founder and president of WillHouse Global, a consulting firm.

The Human Relations/Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Department has been organizing trust talks since 2011 as a way to foster communication between law enforcement and the community.

“We look forward to partnering with Leadership Winston-Salem and continuing this series at such an important time in our city’s history,” said Wanda Allen-Abraha, director of the Human Relations Department.

Katherine Perry, the executive director of Leadership Winston-Salem, said that her organization is pleased to support the effort.

“We’re always looking for ways to connect leaders to the community to help bring about change,” she said.
