More than 250 first responders representing 20 agencies will be participating in a large-scale training exercise on Saturday morning, Nov. 9, at Smith Reynolds Airport and three other locations. Residents may see smoke or flames and hear sirens at the airport, or observe police, fire and EMS personnel converging in the area of Carver School Road, as part of the exercise and should not become alarmed.

During the exercise the participating agencies will practice the training they have received over the past 24 months under a $1.87 million grant from the Department of Homeland Security. The grant is designed to help the region develop, implement and practice a regional approach for responding to a complex, coordinated terrorist attack. The exercise will also test the emergency operations plan for Smith Reynolds Airport.
