The Winston-Salem Police Department will hold a training session Thursday, Jan. 23, for religious leaders who want to participate in the "Pastors on Patrol" initiative. The training will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Scales Fine Arts Center on the campus of Wake Forest University. Participants should park in lot Z3 off Long Drive, across from Winston-Salem First, to catch a shuttle to the Scales Center.

The training will include de-escalation skills and an overview of the Police Department’s Professional Standards Division complaint process and the department’s protocol for handling shootings involving police officers.

Under the Pastors on Patrol initiative religious leaders will receive training and then ride along with patrol officers in the hope that they could de-escalate confrontations, especially in their neighborhoods.
