Mayor Allen Joines is accepting applications from city residents interested in serving on the Bicycle/Pedestrian/Active Mobility Advisory Committee, a new advisory panel the City Council authorized in November to review plans, projects, policies and programs for travel by foot, bicycle or other active mobility devices, promote safe multimodal transportation and advise the City Council accordingly.

The committee will comprise 11 city residents who serve staggered, three-year terms. The inaugural members will be appointed to three- or two-year terms. Citizens who have an interest in such issues as active transportation commuting, recreational cycling, walking and running, transportation planning and   transportation and transit services and accessible transportation for disabled and low-income residents are encouraged to apply.

Interested citizens should apply by March 27 to have their appointment considered by the City Council in April. The application form is available through the Boards and Commissions link at, or by calling the Mayor’s Office at 336-727-2058. Applications may be emailed to, faxed to the Mayor’s Office at 336-748-3241, or mailed to P.O. Box 2511, Winston-Salem, N.C. 27102.
