[ARCHIVED] Mayor Seeks Applicants for Advisory Panels

Mayor Allen Joines is accepting applications from city residents interested in serving on the following boards and commissions:

  • Bicycle/Pedestrian/Active Mobility Advisory Committee. Members review plans, projects, policies and programs pertaining to travel by foot, bicycle or other active mobility devices. 
  • Citizens’ Police Review Board. Members review citizen appeals of the Police Chief’s decisions regarding complaints against the Winston-Salem Police Department employees. 
  • Human Relations Commission. Members review complaints of discrimination and encourage fair treatment and mutual understanding among all ethnic groups.
  • Recreation and Parks Commission. Members advise in the operation and management of the parks and recreational facilities of the city of Winston-Salem.
  • M/WBE Advisory Committee. Members review the city’s Minority/Women’s Business Enterprise program, recommend M/WBE participation goals for specific projects and evaluate the good faith efforts of contractors to hire M/WBE subcontractors.
  • Winston-Salem Transit Authority. Members advise the executive leadership of the Winston-Salem Transit Authority. 
  • Zoning Board of Adjustment. Members hear requests for zoning variances and special-use permits and hear appeals of administrative decisions by zoning officials.  
  • Urban Food Policy Council. Members initiate and promote actions to increase food access in Winston-Salem, with a particular emphasis on activities in the urban core.

Detailed descriptions for these and all the city’s advisory boards and commissions, along with an online application form, are available by going to CityofWS.org/mayor and clicking on the link for Boards and Commissions.  Applications received by 5 p.m. July 15 will be considered at the City Council meeting on Aug. 3. Otherwise, applications may be submitted at any time. Completed and signed applications can be emailed to winstonsalemmo@cityofws.org, faxed to the Mayor’s Office at 336-748-3241 or mailed to Office of the Mayor, P.O. Box 2511, Winston-Salem, N.C. 27102.
