Local transportation planners are soliciting public input on what transportation improvements are needed in Winston-Salem and the surrounding area. They also want input on their plan for dealing with traffic congestion.

The Comprehensive Transportation Plan differs from the Metropolitan Transportation Plan, which was adopted in September, in that it lists all needed transportation improvements. The MTP just lists transportation improvements for which there is funding.

Residents can learn more about the Comprehensive Transportation Plan and provide feedback at a virtual meeting Thursday, Oct. 22 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. To join Thursday’s meeting go to https://vhb.zoom.us/j/95819512164 and enter password 511034, or call 1-301-715-8592 and input webinar ID number 958 1951 2164.

The virtual meeting will also cover proposed updates to the Congestion Management Plan. The congestion plan identifies strategies and solutions to address the recurring congestion issues in the area.

Both plans cover the Winston-Salem metropolitan area, which includes Winston-Salem and Forsyth County and parts of Davie, Davidson and Stokes counties.

Drafts of both plans, and links to submit comments are posted at WSMTPUpdate.com.

Public comments may also be made during the Nov. 19 meeting of the Transportation Advisory Committee for the Winston-Salem metropolitan area. The committee is scheduled to adopt the plans at that meeting.
