Winston Lake, the surrounding shoreline, the fishing pier and the parking lot and shelter by the pier will be closed starting Monday, Nov. 9, for construction of the Phase 2 improvements to Winston Lake Park. Picnic shelters 3 and 4 will remain open but the only access will be from the park entrance on Old Greensboro Road.  Winston Lake Road will be closed just past the overflow parking lot for the Winston Waterworks water park.

Construction is expected to last through October 2021.

Under the phase 2 improvements, the existing fishing pier and shelter will be replaced with a new pier, shelter and restrooms. Other improvements include trail and picnic area improvements on the knoll, clearing the existing trail around the lake to improve access for fishing, paving the large parking area, constructing additional parking areas and dredging about 18,000 cubic yards of sediment from the lake to improve water quality and fish habitat.

The Winston Lake phase 2 improvements are being financed with $5.3 million in bonds that voters approved in 2018. For more information call CityLink 311.
