The city has hired Frank Brown as the director of Historic Bethabara Park. Brown, who started earlier this month, previously worked for an architecture firm in Houston that specializes in traditional architecture and gardens.

Brown, 60, has more than 30 years of experience relevant to Historic Bethabara Park, including stints at the National Register of Historic Places in Washington, D.C; the National Register Program for the state of South Carolina, and work as a private historic preservation consultant in Georgia. He has master’s degrees in architectural history from the University of Virginia and in landscape architecture from Louisiana State University.

Brown says he was acquainted with Historic Bethabara from having visited here it about 20 years ago, and when he saw the job posting, “it seemed like the right thing to do…. It’s the culmination of all my skills and interests….

“There are a lot of parts to this park. You have the historic buildings, the nature trails, the historic gardens, all the wonderful events that happen here. That’s why I was attracted….

“It’s a beautiful place to work, and it’s successful now, but I’m hoping to take it to the next level.”
