Special Olympics Forsyth County wants people to support its athletes by getting cold and wet during the virtual “Plunge in Place” fundraiser, being held this year in lieu of the traditional Polar Plunge at local pools and waterparks. Registration to participate is open through Jan. 30.  A registration link is posted at CityofWS.org/1955.

Registered participants agree to raise at least $50 for the Special Olympics by collecting pledges in return for “plunging in place” by jumping in a pool, dumping a bottle of cold water over their head, running through sprinklers, jumping in a cold shower or otherwise getting wet for the sake of the Special Olympics.

Participants should have someone record a video of their “plunge” and post it to their social media accounts with the hashtag “#findyourfreeze” or email the video to plunge@sonc.net. Videos must be posted or emailed by Feb. 26.

Participants who raise at least $50 will receive a Plunge in Place T-shirt; participants who raise $100 or more will receive such prizes as sweatshirts, coolers, scarves, hats and gym bags.

All donations are tax-deductible and the Plunge in Place webpage includes a link to help participants set up a personal fundraising page.

Special Olympics is a year-round sports training and competition program for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Special Olympics Forsyth County supports more than 1,800 athletes training and competing in 15 different sports.
