City transportation planners are seeking input on the transportation needs of persons with disabilities, individuals with limited incomes and elderly adults in Winston-Salem and the surrounding area and have posted an online survey to gather feedback.

Senior citizens, individuals with disabilities, representatives of public, private, and nonprofit transportation and human services providers and other members of the public are invited to participate.

The survey is posted at WinstonSalemHST.com/get-involved. Residents can also provide feedback over the telephone by calling (336) 923-4119. Surveys must be completed by Feb. 24.

The survey results will be used in the update of the Coordinated Human Services Transportation Plan for the Winston-Salem Metropolitan Planning Organization, which coordinates transportation planning for Forsyth County and adjacent portions of Davidson, Davie and Stokes counties.

The plan is designed to coordinate the efforts of human service agencies, public transit providers and private transportation providers to better serve persons with disabilities, individuals with limited incomes and elderly adults, said Byron Brown, the principal transportation planner for the city.

“Providing safe and reliable transportation for our region is the core of our work,” Brown said. “The best way to demonstrate the value of human services transit in our community is to look at the impact this system makes in individuals’ lives. We ask you to participate in this survey so we can better understand how this plan can shape you and your family’s transportation needs.”
