[ARCHIVED] Draft Pedestrian Plan Posted for Review

Transportation planners have posted the draft of a new masterplan for new sidewalks and other pedestrian improvements in Winston-Salem and want residents to review it and give them feedback.

The draft plan, along with a place to provide comments, is posted at Winston-SalemWalks.com. The plan, titled “Walkable Winston-Salem,” identifies an optimal network of sidewalks and other walkways in Winston-Salem, identifies existing gaps in that network, and ranks by priority new projects to address these gaps.

The plan also includes design guidelines for sidewalks, curb ramps, cross walks, transit stops and other pedestrian facilities, and it identifies possible funding sources for needed improvements.

The updated plan builds on past efforts to create a new vision for walking throughout the city. The final plan, once adopted, would be used to prioritize, fund and build sidewalks, crosswalks, greenways and other pedestrian infrastructure.
