WSFC Utilities Ranks Tops in Nation for Water Quality

A recent study has ranked Winston-Salem’s drinking water as one of the best in the nation. 2021’s Best Cities for Water Quality ranked our water quality second overall among the 200 largest cities throughout the country based on seven key factors. Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Utilities water treatment division performed especially well for customer satisfaction and an excellent record in terms of water quality violations. In the overall tally Winston-Salem was only outranked by Cary, North Carolina.

For more than twenty years, drinking water in Forsyth County has met or surpassed all water quality standards established by the Environmental Protection Agency. The 2020 Water Quality Report is available online at cityofws.org/waterquality2020. It provides the community with detailed test results of water drawn from the Yadkin River and Salem Lake and then treated at the Neilson, Thomas and Swann water treatment plants in Forsyth County.
