[ARCHIVED] Ribbon Cutting Scheduled for Miller Park Exercise Station

City residents are invited to join Mayor Allen Joines and other city and AARP officials at the ribbon cutting for a new seniors-friendly exercise station at Miller Park, at 10 a.m. Friday, May 28. The exercise station is next to the bocce courts on Queen Street.

The ribbon-cutting will also livestream on the city’s YouTube channel

The exercise station, designed by FitLot Inc., a Louisiana non-profit, is funded with a $171,000 grant from AARP. As part of its 60th anniversary celebration, AARP is installing FitLot exercise stations in every state plus three U.S. territories.

The FitLot offers 22 possible exercises on the structure’s various stations, with more exercises possible if users connect resistance bands to various points on the beams. It includes a canopy to shade users. The structure complies with the Americans with Disabilities Act and can be used by people regardless of their strength and mobility.

The AARP grant includes funding for three years of free classes, led by fitness instructors, for anyone who wants to learn how to use the equipment safely and effectively. For more information or to schedule a class, contact Anna Marino, 336-727-2313..
