Old Greensboro Road Bridge Fully Closed

The bridge that carries Old Greensboro Road over Brushy Fork has been completely closed as a precaution to prevent a possible head-on collision in the lane of the bridge that previously was left open. As a result, Old Greensboro Road is closed to through traffic between Waterworks Road and East Fifth Street. A detour is posted. The bridge will remain closed until further notice. Virtual Workshops Scheduled for Pedestrian Plan

The city is holding two virtual workshops in July to collect public feedback on where the city should make improvements in sidewalks, crosswalks, greenways and other pedestrian infrastructure. The first workshop was held from 2 to 3 p.m. Tuesday, July 7, and the second workshop will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 15. At each meeting, city staff and consultants assisting with the study will go over some of the existing conditions for walking in Winston-Salem, and will be collecting input through live polling, an online input map, and a chat box Q&A. Links to participate are posted at Winston-SalemWalks.com.

Community Meal Program Continues With New Hours

The community meals program for youth at eight city recreation centers is continuing with a slight change in distribution hours. Beginning Monday, July 6, free meals will be distributed Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays between 5:30 and 7 p.m. No registration or ID is required to participate. Participants receive two days’ worth of meals on Mondays and Wednesdays, and three days’ worth on Fridays. READ MORE

$470.6 Million Budget Approved for 2020-2021

City services to residents will remain at current levels under the $470.6 million budget for 2020-21 that the City Council approved June 15. The budget allocates $362.2 million for operations, $55.7 million for debt service and $52.6 million for capital improvements. The property tax rate will remain unchanged at 63.74 cents per $100 of assessed value and all user fees, including water and sewer rates, remain the same. View the budget.
